Try to live a greener life. When you buy products, look for those that allow impact over their entire lifecycle; energy, consumption, resource use, pollution and waste generation.
While recycling is good, reusing is better. Try to avoid throwing things away that you can easily reuse. As much as possible, only use a new or disposable product when there's no reusable alternative available.
Before you can make a difference you must understand your own impact on the environment - measure your carbon footprint by checking out the carbon calculator at www.carbonneutral.com
We can collectively save tonnes of CO2 just by turning our computers off at night and during lunch breaks.
Millions of PCs every year end up in landfill or storage; yet in the developing world 99% of all school children have never seen one at all. Consider how your old technology is disposed and put it to good use. (Computer Aid International)
Drink out of reusable cups – if 11 people each stopped using one disposable cup per day, they would save 1 tonne of CO2 a year.
Think before you print. You can save 50g of CO2 by printing a 100 page document double-sided, instead of single-sided. You can save 100g by not printing it at all. Additionally, the plastic used in a typical printer cartridge is expected to take at least 1,000 years to decompose. Over 1 billion of them are discarded every year (Recharger Magazine).
